Yoon Byung Rock, born in 1968 in Yeongcheon, South Korea, is a celebrated figure in contemporary Korean art, known for elevating the mundane to the philosophical. A graduate of Kyungpook National University, where he earned both his BFA and MFA in Western painting, Yoon has spent his career exploring the symbolic resonance of everyday objects—most notably the apple. What might seem like a simple still life becomes, under Yoon’s brush, a layered exploration of consumerism, desire, and the contradictions of modern life.
His meticulously rendered works, grounded in hyperrealism yet rich in subtext, have earned him critical acclaim and several prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize at the 18th Daegu Art Exhibition. Notable solo exhibitions include Space of Yoon Byung-Rock in Seoul and Blooming Essence in New York, as well as appearances in leading international art fairs from Shanghai to Miami. His works are housed in significant collections like the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Seoul Museum of Art.
Yoon’s unique ability to draw meaning from the familiar challenges viewers to slow down and see the world with new eyes. His art transcends cultural boundaries, offering a powerful commentary on the universal human condition through the lens of a deceptively ordinary object.
