Vin Servillon, a bold self-taught Asian-American artist based in New York City shows an exceeding passion for painting despite the clashing expectations from his family. This exhibition especially highlights his testament to his struggle for self-expression amidst misunderstanding and rejection, where painting became his sanctuary, a refuge from his difficult childhood.
When he creates, he’s not just painting on a canvas; he’s peeling back layers of his experiences, struggles, and triumphs. The textures add a tactile dimension that invites closer inspection. The colors, chosen with intention, reflect the emotions and moods that have influenced his life.
While Vin aims to challenge viewers to delve into their own layers, reflect on their transformations and growth, and find meaning in the complexity and depth, seeking to illuminate self-healing, the artist Hak Kyun Kim,a distinguished artist with academic roots in Korea and the United States, has established himself as a prominent figure in the art world through a career spanning decades with his neo-pop “Super” series emphasizes stronger hope from absolute despair in society.
Kim conveys the notion of overcoming during a challenging time that tests our values and beliefs. His characters are “overbeings”, neither male nor female, representing self-overcoming. Kim aims to balance passive degeneration and active regeneration. While embodying the society’s changing attitudes, norms and values, his work reveals how we as a society are under the sway of negative views about the contemporary era with his satirical characters with their innocent and humorous looks.
